CRONUT: Blueberry Lemon Verbena with Greek Yogurt Ganache -- Dominique Ansel Bakery, NY, NY

It took over a year, but we've finally tasted what the snack world has been obsessing over since May of 2013 when the Cronut, created by Chef Dominique Ansel, was unleashed. To this day, the famous croissant/donut hybrid pastry still sells out daily within minutes of the Dominique Ansel Bakery opening its doors.

We were lucky to have a good friend pre-order some Cronuts weeks ago and bring them in today for us to sample. We tried May's flavor: Blueberry Lemon Verbena with Greek Yogurt Ganache (and lemon verbena sugar). The verdict is that these magical confections should be illegal because they're dangerously delectable! The complexity of luxurious fresh flavors was mind blowing. The flaky buttery dough, the silky smooth pastry cream filling, the crunchy bright sugar crystals, the sticky sweet glaze, the rich fruity ganache -- it was an explosion of dreamy blueberry lemony flavor that made us go silent while we ate (our friend forgot we were in the room). We think our heart may have stopped for a few seconds from the shock!

This IS the real deal.
